Former lead singer for the Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 (as a member of Jefferson Airplane).
When his former Jefferson Airplane band mates Paul Kantner and 格雷斯·斯利克 formed Jefferson Starship in 1973 he wasn't originally part of the reunion. However, he was invited to sing lead vocals on the song "Caroline", which was on the group's debut album "Dragon Fly", after he wrote lyrics to go along with the instrumental tracks Kantner had written. This set the stage for him to join the band a year later to record the album "Red Octopus", which became the first number one album for either Jefferson Airplane or Jefferson Starship.
Wrote and sang lead on Jefferson Starship's biggest hit single "Miracles".
During Jefferson Airplane's performance at the Rolling Stones infamous Altamont free concert, Balin was knocked unconscious trying to save a fan from getting beat up by various members of the Hell's Angels.
